If the fan isnt cutting in its either the fan itself or the thermo switch. Take the plug off your thermo switch and bridge the terminals in the plug with a piece of wire (the ignition needs to be turned on), if the fan kicks in its the switch, if it doesnt its the fan itself at fault or a fault in the wiring. Also check your fuses.

Unplug the ECU temp sensor and the fans will just run if they are working as this is a default state for the ecu when no signal is returned for ecu.
Zetecs do not have any major overheating problems really.

Thanks for the replys i will defo check them out this weekend
my mate had a gti for a while and said his always ran at 3/4 but never boiled over mine hasnt boiled yet but dont want to risk it.
