Thicker Engine Oil Over 100,000??
My Escort GTi has now done over 100,000 (closer to 120!), and i've seen some people advising going from 5w30 oil up to 10w40 as its a bit thicker.
The cars a 1.8 Zetec.
Anyone else advise me on this please as im still a little unsure on the subject?
Thanks in advance
James

My Mondeo got the 1.8 Zetec with 182k miles on it, I still run it on 5w/30 with no problems, has started leaking oil though (camshaft seal) and does burn a little on start up.
I considered a change of oil, but I'm now considering a change of engine, just don't know what engine I'm gonna go for though.

Does seem to be very mixed view's on this. Pretty much a 50/50 split from other things i've read on forums.

20K+ Super Poster.
If it is burning oil due to wear, using a thicker oil will cause it to burn less, I used 5w50 in my brand new rebuilt zetec after I had rebuilt it without any problems at all.
The thinner 5W30 oil was used as a economy thing, ie less drag better effeciency.
