Default driveshaft compatibility

this is an easy one i need to replace an n reg escort cosworth nearside driveshaft i can only get new sierra ones, are the 4x4 ones the same as the escort for a direct replacment, thanks for your help in advance.

You dont say wether its front or rear shaft. however the rear shafts are all same except rwd sierra cos which use bigger cv joints and thicker shafts, i assume its probably front as these usually give trouble. the escos and sierra cos4x4 are same but v6 sierra 4x4 use longer shaft (10mm) but same joints, however many people use longer shaft especially on very low cars as the increased angle on the shaft as the suspension is loaded can cause damage to joints and even pull apart completely especially if the engine mounts are tired. check the engine mounts before replacing or you could be replacing again very quickly.

What he said lol

You can still buy them from dingbros. My mate canged his but it pulled apart so he claimed warrenty! Since then its been fine tho.

thanks for that cossytel it was the front yeah nside il look into the mounts as the car isnt that low but is on 19s could that be a problem?

It changes the angle in which the drive shaft lies because of the camber on the wheels, tight corners or hard bumps can pull the CV joint apart. Or in my mates case, the rolling road when they strapped it down!!! He still made 283@wheels tho

The 19s shouldnt be a problem, while your under there though it might be worth a quick look at inner tca bushes, if they are tired they can add to the problem, if they are rubber i would consider some polyurethane ones.
