Default flat spot and fuel issue

hi there

im new here and have just brought my first rs turbo mk 4 after owning a string of capris and sierras.

im having some trouble with the car at the mo, but not sure whats causing it.

When running low on fuel (under half tank) the engine keeps wanting to stall and cutting out when the throttle is squeezed a bit. also the fuel pump gets really loud. im sure its not the fuel pump as ive just replaced that. also, the engine seems to become very flat when you get to about 3.5k to 4k revs. regardless of how much fuel is in the car, so im not sure if these problems are related.

anyone any ideas?

thanks in advance

Dave

no swirl pot in the tank, and incorrect ignition timing.

it stops air getting sucked into the fuel pump, which happens when the fuel level is low. The fuel tank may be a non injection item.
