Exactly the same. No difference whatsoever. One's not stronger than the other.

the 205 block used in the cossie was picked from the transit engine line...the engines with the best bore grades were used....if you are reboring one of these then it does not make any difference

They're not

If you are comparing later Transits then they had the 202 block which was introduced in 1992. Cosworth just picked the centre two bore grades (2 and 3) otherwise the casting is the same.

For info.
the numbers on the blocks is the capacity followed by the year of introduction.
205 - 2 litre/1985
202 - 2 litre/1992
200 - 2 litre/1990

Only the 200 block (and there's three different types ) was specially cast for the Cosworth 4x4 engine.

Why is it then that the transit/pinto block has '205' cast in a different size on the side of the block when compared to the '205' cast in the side of a cosworth block?

There may have been minor revisions depending on when the blocks were cast. Have you checked the part numbers?

Ford don't even list a 'Cosworth' block unless it's a 4x4 version. The T88 block has had the same part number from 1970 to Feb 1985 when it was revised and was given the 205 designation. Prior to this the 2.0 engines had 20 cast into the side of the block.
Until the 4x4 was introduced there was no 'Cosworth' block when referring to the YB engine.

YBL is not a valid Cosworth Engineering drawing office code. A 1989 car should be YBB. Where are you reading the number from?

The YBL 443 code is in the correct place in front. Other numbers are:
17 D88
N5B
21030
205
85HM6015BB
