Default 1.8 Si Engine Problem

Hi guys, i have an escort 1.8Si which has a problem. Whether its hot or cold and in any gear, when you put your foot down it picks up well up untill 4000rpm, then it just seems to go 'flat' and picks up like a 1.1

Its got a k+n and a stainless back box. Ive changed the plugs, leads and fuel filter which have done nothing. Have also run a bottle of injector cleaner and redex through it and these have also had no effect.

Any help appreciated, thanks.

Could be a blocked cat, amongst other things.

Pretty much any of the sensors can cause you such issues, water temp, air temp, MAF, TPS.. unless you get them tested you'll end up randomly replacing them until the problem goes away.

Best get it on a code reader then see if anything flags up. Cheers mate.

That's easily tested - just unplug it and if the car drives better, then there's your answer!

The MAF probably just needed a clean, especially if you have and induction kit. They are more troubel than they are worth and you HEGO has probably taken some damage now to.

HEGO won't be damaged, but the MAF coud certainly do with a clean, with carb cleaner, as the OIL on the filter elements does as said stick on the HOT wires of the MAF.
The reset ecu by pulling fuse for KAM, a 2/3 amp violet one for a minute or so.

Got a new AFM and fitted it and its better but still not right, still a bit hesitant after 4k rpm. Code reader flagged nothing up after fitting AFM. Will give things a good clean and see what that does.

Thanks for the replies guys

Will it run bette with the MAF unplugged?

The HEGO could be damaged if the dirty/faulty MAF caused over fuelling for a long period of time.
