funny gearbox sound erst
hi all
just started to here a funny noise coming from i think the gearbox on a series 2 rs turbo escort
well i was traveling at dead on 50 mph around 1350 rpm and heard a noise like a train crossing a set of points its not loud but noticeable but it is strange as only hear it in 5th gear but if i go over 50mph say 52mph or under 50 mph it goes but will return at 70 but not so loud
things i have done to see if it was the engine i found a steapish hill to go down to keep speed up , firstly i dipped the clutch and noise was still there on tick over then i repeated the same process but whilst dipping the clutch and the revs dropped i gave it a bit of throttle to 2000 rpm to see if the noise went but still there the noise and it sounds like its coming from behind passenger footwell to say where the stereo is if you can follow me
i have tried it in 4th gear but i think its not there but hard to hear it due to engines revs,
one other bit of info on gearbox is i get a very slight whine from 1st gear on pull away say for the first 5 mins of driving then it goes untill started from cold the next day ,the clutch is new and only done 1000 miles and the left front bearing was replaced 200 miles ago dew to rusting (had no dust seal on hub )
on the day i noticed the noise i was traveling to tuners to get the car set up after i fitted a t2 cam but car tuners stated the set was not needed as was spot on but i did not mention the strange noise as i wanted to see if he noticed it but never
if anyone could give me some help or had a similar problem i would be grateful
