Default Best cams for stage 3 spec

My cars not been making the power it should since i redone the timing and fitted verniers, ive set the cam timing to stardard but its only making 270 BHP and with a flatter than flat power curve.. I dont know the spec of the cams just presumed they were standard but now im not sure..

Ive checked them and they appear standard with no markings stamped on but thats not to say they have not been reground at some point i guess.. My head has seen some porting so cams wouldnt be out of the question but have no recepts for the build work so not sure

If i were just to buy some new cams what would be best for a stage 3 motor with .48 T34 and some light head work? Oh and greens.

depends on pistons m8
Std pistons i would go bd-12 inlet bd-10 exh to get some more top end or std exhaust to get a really torque engine

Have you measured the lift/duration of the cams, as if they have more lift the pistons SHOULD have been pocketed with valve cut outs.
You need to ask what power you want and go from there, but as said std cams are a safe choice and will get you 350 on greens.

Thanks for the reply folks, ive been offered a set of BD10's for good money would these "work" with my engine spec? Do the 10's give more top end power or better torque?

Cheers

The std cams are BD8, so these BD10 are the next step up, impossible to say WITHOUT knowing if you have valve cut outs or not, if you don't they will almost defintitely hit the pistons.
The exhaust ones does not really need touching when on greeens, indeed a BD14 INLET ONLY would be my first choice with a step up in injectors, with STD exhaust cam.

yep, std cams are good for much more power then you will ever see from your baby turbo, and give you massive torque, which makes a real nice road car.

as a general rule for cams, the wilder you go, you gain top end bhp, but loose torque on the way....add this to the fact your turbo makes its power low down on a .48, it wouldnt make much gain imo

as for piston /valve pockets, it depends how much has been skimmed off head/block, what head gasket thickness, and how they are dialled in.....when i spoke to stu about this, he said he has seen std pistons clear a bd14.....iirc

Cheers Dan,

The wheels were only really a short term extravagance and when the cars not running right and needs more money spending they are going to have to go.

Thanks for the advise on the cams guys going to have to check the lift etc of mine and work out if they are standard and go from there.
