Default Warping brakes (not only ford)

What's the problem with warping brake discs these days ?

Cossies suffered (still do) from them, evo's suffer too apparently, and, reading stu's post on his M5 purchase, it would appear even top of the range BMW cars suffer from this problem.
I am sure many other cars suffer from this too.

What I don't understand is that in 20 years, nobody's come up with a solution yet !!! Is it a steering geometry / stability problem ? The roads ? Too small a disc setup for the weight of the car ?

People sitting at lights, junctions with the footbrake on rather than using the handbrake. Nice hot pads on hot discs, what do they think will happen?

Isn't the procedure for running brakes in the same as the one for running engines in... e.g. nobody really knows what's best, but everyone has an opinion ?

Some say they need short sharp bursts of braking in the early days, others say that energetic braking should be avoided for a few hundred miles...

Your only dealing with uneven heat build up...

Its not rocket science, or engine science

thats my method for running in engines aswell

take it easy as first, then drive it as a 'normal' person would for a sensible amount of time, as said, most brake problems are caused by to much heat.

I read a good article on the myth of warping brake discs a good while back. As Darenspalmer has pointed out, this is often the cause of the so called "warped disc". There are a few other reasons it can happen too.

As for bedding pads in, there are a few tried and tested methods. The quick method is 50-30 gently 5 times then 70-30 starting gently and working up to aggressive, over 5-10 times, seems to work very well for me. either that or drive normally and go fairly easy on them for 100 miles or so. not 100miles straight down the motorway though, that doesnt count.

JAmes.

Mine regularly heat up to the point where they are completely useless and dont work at all. If I'm using them hard all I do is drive say the last 10 miles home cruising and avoiding using the brakes at all. By the time I get home the air has totally cooled them and I can park it straight up...Discs arent warped in the slightest!

So yeah its definetly heating them right up and leaving the car sitting that does it.
