Can someone please explain to me why a cold engine needs so much more fuel to acchieve the same A/F ratio?

because the fuel in a cold engine doesn't properly 'atomise' or 'dissolve' into the incoming air charge. so when it's compressed, it won't burn properly due to a local lean mixture around the spark plug (even though the overall ratio of air/fuel by mass could be correct). therefore you have to make a 'rich' mixture to get a good combustible mixture local to the ignition point.

It's just that I try to answer as many question as possible, but when I have a question it usually just slowly disappears with zero answers. And I don't mean particularly this forum but in general. Perhaps it's because of the type of the questions...

ForeigneRS: So what you mean is that in the end, the excess part of the fuel comes out unburnt?

Understood Jesse..

Its just that i spend a large portion of my time trying to help folks out and educate them where i possibly can, in amongst having a missus, 2 kids, a business and this forum to run/pay for, and its a bit downheartening to read things like that sometimes...
