Stuck in another town - HELP
My 88 cossie stalls when in traffic (at a standstill) after some stop start driving then wont restart again unless i leave it for a while . It also over-revs while idling up to around 2500 then back down again then usually cuts out. My car has gone bonkers , any ideas? As i am in NZ there arent too many cosworth experts but the mechanic says it is dumping too much fuel in and cant figure out why.

Well thought i had it sorted and drove 400 miles , replaced the temp sensor . map sensor was fine and tried one from another car BUT car wont start now , doesnt even want to know . Coughed and spluttered first time then just winds over now . Must be fuel but what? Car before was only cutting out at 5mph in traffic after (exactly) 20 mins of driving.

ok ,which temp sensor did u change,i take it that it was the one for the ecu it should have a multy plug connected to it at the back of and under the inlet manifold,a pure bastard to get at i can also asume that you have checked all the leads etc etc and crank sensor gap. take out the plugs and have a good look at them they could be soaked in fuel and black sooty deposits.overfueling is normally caused by either a faulty map sensor or the ecu watertemp sensor, after that its basicly ecu related which means maybe a chip gone bananas or internal processing,
if all the sensors and other bits are ok it may be worth checking wireing of the above sensors to the ecu as there may be a bad connection at the ecu plug, sometimes pins can push back into the plug itself, you can also check running voltages at the pin connections
is this problem only at idle or does the car misfire and sputter at higher revs and normal driving?if you need pin voltages and stuff let me know

mine is screwed all over the place, can be at idle or at 70-80 mph any time any where!!! changed air flow sensor got an idle valve on the way. but there was an ECU Rom error in the diagnostics

I didnt work on the car myself (not able to) but the place i took it to they put a new watertemp r in and it went fine after that . the map sensor was checked from another car and went fine , plugs and pins look fine. i will have to take it to another garage , really strange as the car drove beautifuly after the temp sensor change then after a few days when i stopped just wouldnt start again . Someone also suggested fuel pump? how can i check if the chip has gone bananas?
Thanks for your help , im not online so only get to check this site every few days
