Default Mondeo MK3 Leather Interior / Air Bag Warning Light

Can anyone help please?
I have just fitted a leather interior from a Ghia X to my Zetec S and now have a flashing airbag light on the dashboard. Is it the connectors? Some same the seat belt pretensions are a bit tempremental when the plugs are disturbed, does any one know?

Also, before i removed the original seats i disconnected the battery negative lead. Some say that this isn't required. Anyone unplugged the seats without removing the neg. lead?

You should disconnect the battery at most times when dealing with airbags. Its best to disconnect the battery and wait about 5mins just in case the air bags go off. Ive had it on a few cars, when you get in and move the seats back or forward it disturbs the wires/connectors and brings the airbag light on. I would just check the connections and go from there. Some cars will delete the light themselves and some will need a computer plugging in to get the light to go out.

Did they come from the same year as the early ones had the sensor in the passenger seat to detect if someone was sat there without the belt on. If this isnt connected then it throws an airbag fault.

Also check ALL of the connections under the seats as ther are prone to this when a plus works loose.

Also how many times is it flashing as there is a set sequence that determines hwat the fault is.

Thanks for this. Mine is a 2002 which had the 'is the passenger sitting there sensor' in the original seats. So you are saying that these seats may not have that sensor? The warning light for this that is in the center console comes on for about 2 seconds then goes out when the seat is empty.

The warning light comes on when the ignition is turned on. Then when the other lights go out, it comes back on for about 2 seconds then flashes 6 times. This coming on for 2 seconds and flashing 6 times i repeated 5 times then the light stays on permanently until the ignition is turned off.

Is this a real fault/bad connection or is it just warning me that something as changed?

I'm sort of getting there with this. Mine is a March 2002 and the seats are from a 2002/03 (so a '52') and this guy on the www.fordmondeo.org site is sure that things changed form June 2002 and the occupancy sensor is different. Two options, take the sensor from my original seat and bob it in or place a 2ohm resistor in the circuit. Dunno how to do this though. Sounds good, i'd rather have the airbag ready to deploy than not even if no one is sat there. The opposite to this is not an option.

Does anyone have a sensor from a 2002 model, before June?

NealL - the interior i installed was from a 2003 model so the seat pad sensor is different, hence my warning light. I put my original passenger back and all is well. So i need to whip the sensor out and put it in the new seat.
