I'm stripping down the rear beam/diff/arms/hubs etc.. on a 4x4 sierra beam and have not got a socket big enough for the drive shaft nut. Can anyone tell me the size as I measured it up at 40 (i think dont quote me) but went to Halfrauds and they don't go that high but they do an imperial size thats very close to the size I need....
Anyone?

and yes they should do as i saw one of them the other day in halfrods
the other thng to remind you is that the shafts are sided for length so don't get them mixed up otherwise you may find that they hit in the inner parts of the cv joint as the suspension travels upwards

yeah I thought as much!...
I've made a right booboo as the rear arms are off of the beam and the inner flange of the shaft unbolted from the diff
so basically I have no real way of holding the shaft from spinning whilst I undo the nut
might have to get them in the boot and down to the local garage and get the gun on them like you say
Cheers Fellas

if the beam is on the car you can put an old steel rim on and then use the wieght of the car to stop it from turning while you undo it
if it's off then what you need to do is put an old brake disc on there and then find something to bolt to the hub carrier to stop the disc from turning
you'll need a vented disc as you can jam a screwdriver into the spokes, unles you've got vented rear discs then you an just put the cossie rear caliper carriers on and use them
just make sure you have someone standing ont he beam while you undo it as the last one i did needed the nuits cut to almost the threads then my dad standing on it, all 16 stone of him AND 300 ft/lbs on 4 foot worth of 3/4 drive socket to undo the nuts, and this was before i figured out i was turning them the right way as well
