dingy,
last time i say it.....

Its always advisable to loctite any fastner subject to vibration, regardless of material Steve, and if your too tight to do so, then ya deserve things to fall off.

lol, yes mate, take stu's advice.....which was ?
Stu, no offense, but I never had any issues with what gaz has purchased.
And had MK 2 escorts for 13 years, you have had one how long... ? and worked on how many ?
Nothing to do with being upset, its to do with advice.

Who said they aint pukka? Where?
Im sayin Ford used to send em pre compounded, as they still do most other models, YB, Duratec etc etc
Interestingly,
If ya dig out the Ford Rs technicians Revision manual, dated 1977 and turn to 2.0SOHC, you will find, and i quote:
"Cylinder head:
Exhaust manifold studs - coat with Loctite 616"
But hey, what the fook would ford know anyway Steve? bunch of losers arent they!!
GAz,
My last word on this poxy post. I advise you use a stud retaining compound due to the vibration an exhaust is subject to. Its only about Ł1.99mate and hardly worth the aggro this post has caused.
Will it hurt not to?
Now i fooking know your pissed!!

without getting involved in a fight...
Mk2 studs are unlikely to come pre-compounded - the ones we used to get didn't have a full-depth thread cut on them, so they were a deliberate tight fit in the head thread. It's difficult to see on your picture GAZ, but have a close look and see if the short thread (that goes in the head) is shallower than the longer portion (it looks like it hasn't been formed properly if you like)?
For this reason, there is no need for locking compound in this instance...
later Ford studs did come pre-compounded like the other pic, but most of them were intended for aluminium heads (CVH, Zetec, YB - not cast iron pinto), which would not tolerate the interference fit without risking thread damage in the head..
sorry Stu, hope you will still be my friend..
