you can get treatment for the tappets, its like an oil additive, you put it in the engine, run it for X amount of miles then drain it and put normal oil back in. worked for my mates mazda 323f.

 

Is it a cvh engine mate. If so you can get a tappet set which are about 50 quid for the 8 tappets.you can buy a special tool which i have. To replace these you can use this tool and you dont have to take the head off to do these. I had mk4 escort xr3i and i changed tappets on both of these.

 

Theres no point changing just the tappets you need to change the cam aswell as they ware togethere. If you change just the tappets they will go again get a cam and tappets set and do it right the first time round.

 

Or right well like i said when i had my xr3s i just changed the tappets and i had both cars over 2 years and they were ok.
