Default please help, no boost from turbo

Hi,

Having problems getting my turbo to boost after the actuator bracket broke.

I have remounted the actuator onto the reparied bracket, and adjusted the rod such that it is pulling the actuator tight ( and hopefully the wastegate closed ) . However I still get no boost until 5000 rpm plus.

I have had some help from here with understanding how the wastegate and actuator work, for which I am grateful, and I think I have mounted and adjusted it correctly.

Can anyone suggest the why the car is still not boosting. It came on boost at about 3000rpm before the bracket broke.

Cheers

Paul.

Sounds like the actuator needs adjusting to me, if it's boosting ok but late. or could be the Amal valve

Mmmm, interesting.

I thought the actuator pulls the wastegate closed, and then when the boost gets to desired reading it open the wastegate. Is this correct ?

Are you implying that if my setup is adjusted correctly, maybe the actuator is opening too early ?

Or have I understood how it works incorrectly ??

Cheers

The actuator holds the wastegate closed then as boost rises the boost pressure forces the actuator rod to open the wastegate, the best place to normally start it to have the wastegate in a closed position and then adjust the actuator rod length so that half of the wastgete operating pin is visible in the hole on the end of the actuator rod, the PULL the actuator rod so it goes onto the wastgate pin and secure with the R clip, take the car for a test run and adjust the boost to your required level, 1 complete revolution of the actuator rod equates to roughly a 2psi change in boost pressure.

The AMAL valve is an ecu controled electronic solinoid which operates very much in the same way as a bleed valve only the ECU has the ability to 'close the bleed' and lower the boost if required for any reason, this has 3 ports and 1 electricl connector which carries 2 wires. The AMAL valve is about 40mm round and around 20mm high and is normally mounted on top of the intercooler, it has 3 hoses going to it, 1 which goes to the air box, one which goes to the turbine housing and another which goes to the actuator.
