gearbox change or not???? need help

Default gearbox change or not???? need help

Hi all

i have just got a d.o.h.c 1.6 16v zetec engine i was told it was from a mks6 escort and i could use my gearbox and drive shafts from my 1.3 ohc but when i have look at it the starter is on the back of the engine dose this mean i have got to get the gearbox to match the engine or is there a way of getting round this thanks and i hope you can help

some mk6 gearboxes have them at the back just look in the scrappy for one ive got a mk6 esocrt with the starter at the front and one at the back hope this helps mate

hi mate was hoping to still use the 1.3 gearbox but the starter is in the front on the ohc thought that there might be a plate or adaptor plate or some thing oh well off to the scrappy it is then will the drive shafts still fitt or will thay have to be changed as well???

not one hundred on the shafts they should fit thought mate

thanks mate will have to see if thay fitt when i get the box a frend of mine has just told me that the starter on this engine can be changed to the front dos this sound right to you may be some one here can shed some light on that one for me but many thanks mate

no mate the car is a mk5b 1.3 ohc the engine is out of a mk6 dohc zetec the only reason i am changing is the zetec has only got 42000 on the clock and the 1.3 is almost dead and the extra power wont go a miss

thats what i was thinking but the only problem is the starter being on the back of the engine and the gearbox i have the starter is on the front am going to have a look at it in the morninig just to see if the starter will change from the back to the front or maybe on of the lads on here can shed some more light on it for me if not then its off to the scrappy. but for now thanks for all the help mate will keep you informed on how its going or not thanks again.

Just checked the starter and it can not be moved from the back of the engine to the front so it will be off to the scrappy for a gearbox lets hope the the drive shafts fit l.o.l thanks again

hi all

this is tuning into a nightmare L.O.L there is a power steering pump on this engine and i dont have power steering on my car, any way of getting round this think i was sold the wrong engine really never mind thanks again.

you can take the pump off amte and fit another samller belt

hi djmillsy thought of removing it but there is a senser on the tupe leading to the steering rack have not found out what it is my gess would be the low fluid warning senser but not realy sure can get a smaller drive belt so should not be to much to sort out thanks again mate.

proberly low fuild sensor jsut remove it mate if your not fitting the power sterring yep you can get a smaller belt mate cant remember what type though
