Default Escort Turbo Diesel Power.

Does any body know the best mods to do to get the best power increases out of an escort turbo diesel engine. I bought this three year ago and just got round to fitting it in my van. Its only done 44000 miles so only just run in really lol. Its joined to a straight 1.8 diesel van box at the moment for quicker acceleration. Any help greatly apprieciated.[/img]

There is nothing you can do, it is not a very good engine

Just save up all the money you save in fuel and you can update to a better engine one day

There is PLENTY you can do,(if CAV) first make sure you have a CAV fuel filter, and K&N air filter.
Next take off the hexagon shaped "cap" on the front of the pump, undo locknut, turn allen screw in centre 1/4 turn at a time CLOCKWISE as this wil increase fuelling, don't go mad as it will then just generate loads of black smoke and overfuel.
My own 1.8D escort(mk4) would do 112mph all day long, acceleration was a LITTLE better but not awsomely so, use BIODIESEL as this will make it quicker too, or for the full works HEATING OIL, as fuelling can be so much more increased whilst retaining good emmisions.
NB my friend's business used heating oil, as does his rangey.
Also try some MILLERS diesel cleaner in there it is awsome stuff and works particularly well.

Default Derv all the way

One of my mates is pretty much a diesel specialist and he says in america they use these turbo diesel engines in fiesta's for drag racing. By uprating pretty much everything they run 100psi of boost and pull 10sec quarter miles. well thats just too extreme for me so i'd be happy settling for slightly less but more reliable. Cheers tabetha

Early mondeo use the same engine there was a forum full of tuining for the 1.8TD but it seems to have moved host or sumink cos all i get is a 404 error at it's old addy ?
Front mounted intercooler, more boost and the fuel mod makes a hell of a difference, never managed to get a desent idle with heating oil i add 20% new cooking oil to the tank (higher calorific value than diesel) makes it run smoother and quieter as well, in me Di transit it makes even more difference due to it being a friken noisy engine to start with
Does smell a bit like a wok at traffic lights though
