it should be held in by a snap ring so should pop out like most fords, if the snap ring is missing when u take it out then you will have to remove the bottom plate on the front diff to find it

unfortunatly the driverside shaft assembly or to be precise the inner cup that the tri bearing end of the shaft fits into has locking ring installed inside the front diff .
if you just need the shaft out, you can remove it from the inner cup without taking the cup out of the diff, just make sure the spring inside the cup is centeralized when you reinstal the shaft into the cup.
if you want the complete shaft and inner cup out then you must remove the lower cover from the front diff. and there is no drain plug so be prepared for oil spillage . if you then look in at the end where it comes into the diff you will see a metal ring, simply pry it off and watch it doesnt take your eye out , and then simply remove the cup and shaft assembly .
you now have two choices if you wish.
you can renew the diff seal where you removed the cup and when reinstalling the cup/shaft assembly leave the lock ring out but i would not advise that, it will not cause a problem but it wont be right.
make sure when you put back on the locking ring (preferably a new one but you can use the old one once it locks good) is that it is properly seated in its groove. if not then it can work loose and possibly be chewed by the diff itself (not nice) .
and a final note, there is no gasket for the front diff cover plate so a good clean of the faces and a dolupe of sealant should suffice. finally dont forget to fill with diff oil (ep90 i think)
but you may be lucky and someone may already left the locking ring out then above wont apply. best of luck
