Default running on two cylinders

My mate's got a 99 Ka 1300, it's only firing on cylinder's 2&3 any ideas or has anyone came across this fault before?
I suspected a sensor fault so "borrowed" a crank & camshaft sensors & coil from another Ka and it has made no difference.
It's almost as if the car's in limp home mode but correct me if I'm wrong they don't have this feature do they?
Possible wiring/ecu fault?
Any links to wiring diagrams or any readings i should be looking for?

Thanks in advance for any help/advice given!!

LOS, or LIMITED OPERATION STRATEGY will NOT be like this it will just be flat, it does NOT cut cylinders out.
I doubt very much it is running on two cylinders, if a sensor was buggered it would affect all the cylinders.
The coil or it's wiring is the most likely cause as the baddy.
I would think it will definitely have a LOS mode as it has CAT.
Does it have a exhaust gas pressure differential sensor ?, as this will make it go absolutely flat.

is it running a coil pack?

Chances are thats gone, seeing as 1&4 fire at the same time, as do 2&3

Check for a spark

cheers folks, when i said firing I meant sparking!! Yeah it's got a coil pack, I tried another one on but I don't know if that coil was good as it was from a breakers, it was exactly the same.
What do you mea by a exhaust gas pressure thingy? A lambda sensor? if so it has!!
I'm going to try a different coil on it tionight then get an auto electricaian to have a look if that does'nt sort it!

Chances of getting 2 coil packs with the same fault are slim

Resistance test the primary and secondary coils.

You could have a wiring fault if its not the coil then, can't see it being much else

any idea what sort of resistance i shoulkd be looking for mate~? Or will i just test it and if they aint too far apart assume the coil's good? I think i'm just going to get the sparky to sort it as my assumpution was the same as yours that it's highly unlikekly to have two coils with the same fault!

not off the top of my head, but you should be able to tell if the range you use isn't high enough.

Turns out the ecu's fooked, they reckon the coil's shorted out and blown a circuit.
I can get an ecu, transponder and key from the breaker's pretty cheap, is it just a case of swapping them over? will it work if i swap them straight over or does anything else have to be done?
Any help/ advice greatly appreciated

The coil can not really short out and affect the ECU. Have you tested the coilpack conector with a Noid light? What did the garage actually test?

it was the ecu that was fooked, the circuit that controls the spark for cyl's 1 & 4 was burnt out, don't know how it happened though.
Ecu from scrappies fitted with transponder & chip running well now

Thanks for your help folks
