Default Escort Troubles

Hi, it is a 1995 N plate escort 1.6 16v

Got MOT coming up and Ive noticed these issues in the last few weeks...

1. The oil light comes on when going round a corner Have also started to hear the dreaded escort tick tick tick tick tick from the engine But, I pull the dip stick out and it is covered in oil about 5 or 6 inches

2. When I steer the wheels right or left there is a *really* noticable creeking noise and its got worse

3. Going over bumps in the road makes the back end "knocking" noise

4. Can ya tighten the handbrake easyly? if so, how do ya do it

Thanks for any replys/help

1. the oil light coming on round the corner its either a fucked engine or shagged fuel pump im not sure if the light comes on with them if the oils low

2.creaking noise could be alot check the springs ball and c/v joints

3.sounds like wheel bearings on the back or the bushes

4. yes you can adjust it its easy you can slightly adjust it at the lever in the car

djmillsy are you serious? How can an oil pressure light be down to the fuel pump?

1. The oil light makes no difference to the MOT, but chances are the oil level is low. presumably you are removing the dipstick, wiping it clean and THEN checking the level.......

The rest are pretty much as said really

the way you have wrote number 1 suggest that you are dipping it after you have seen the oil light come on (after you have been driving) , this will give you a false reading and you should be dipping it when the engine is cold and on level ground

number 2 & 3 sound like bushes and or ball joints , probably both as escorts eat them

I have, previously (before tick tick tick noise started) dipped it in when both hot and cold and always had same amount of oil on the stick.. BUT..

I dipped it today after driving 20 - 30 miles and there was nothing on the dipstick

So, Will dip it again tomorrow (cold) And put oil in if needed.

Thanks for all the replys..

Im guessing that with the exception of the oil issue, if the other points are "fucked" then it is a mot failure?

if it is your bushes and ball joints then yes its a MOT failure but they are fairly cheap and easy to replace
