I have a series 2 rst and two days ago I had an oil pressure light come on after 350 miles of driving (the last 100 miles of motorway driving). The light comes on at idle and there are no unusual noises. Its had a new oil switch about 5000 miles ago and a new pump about the same time.Today I fitted a pressure gauge and when its hot (to the point of having the cooling fan cut in) its showing about 10 psi at 800-100rpm.The funny thing is even though the gauge is showing 10 psi the oil light isnt coming on until i stall it.Can anyone help please coz I have to travel another 350 miles tomorrow. Thanks everyone.

Hi, the oil pressure switch normally switches off the oil warning light at 6psi
In an ideal world the oil pressure should a minimum of 14psi at idle when hot?
And a minimum of 40psi under load, on boost, greater than 2000 rpm
10psi is getting a bit on the low side,
what do you get at 4000 rpm
Cheers
Steve.
Ps ADSRST how is the engine going

Hi Guys.sorry for not getting back to you but i dont have internet access during the week usually.the pressure cold is about 80 psi but when hot it doesnt usually go above 40 no matter what revs.i have done 400 miles since the light came on without a repeat of the flickering lightand i now have a gauge which is an electric one and it is as useful as a chocolate fire guard.the oil is the wrong grade as i found out this week.it is fully synthetic 5-40 so i need to change it quick.i put a new set of hydraulic lifters in it and then a cam a week later.did it all wrong cause i have been told i should have fitted them together and could have knackered the cam as the lifters will have adjusted to the old one.you live and learn i suppose.now i have a noisy tappet on start up and occasionally when i am running it.i had the engine apart 6 months ago and it is as clean as an operating theatre,in fact the inside of the engine is immaculate.any other ideas?.thanks once again.steve p
