Default escort high temp!!!!

My wife has a `97 1.6 escort chicane . The fan isn`t kicking in and water temp. gets very high . I have checked fuses and stuff and all looks good. Am I assuming right that it could be thermostat? If so is this located just to the right of the oil filler cap (as you look at engine from the front) on a big water pipe coming from top of radiator?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

if the fan's not kicking in, it sounds like the temp switch for the fan is knackered, try bridging the contacts in the plug to make the fan run constant and see if it still overheats.

just changed sensor and has made no differance, will get multi meter on plug for fan later and see if fan itself is knackered or as you say wire it up directly.

What do you mean by bridge contacts? as surely this will just short it out?
There are only 2 contacts in the plug!!!!

basically the temp switch is exactly that, a switch, when the switch picks up the high temp it creates a circuit between the 2 wires going to it.
i think both wires are an earth basically and the fan cannot work unless a circuit is made between the 2.
hope that helps mate
