okay i have just rebuilt my efi rs turbo cvh, from the moment i started it there was a heavy tappet like noise loud clicking. i bought a new cam and hyraulic tappets and fitted them today hoping that would cure it, but it has not. Loud clicking noise coming from left of rocker cover area, is it possible that the rocker arms can wear? The car drives perfectly fine but its most loud when under load, ie accelerating or going up hills. when underway and sitting at a steady pace all is quietish. Any ideas??????

tbh i think your rockers are to blame, check the valve clearance's with a feeler guage refer to the haynes manual for sizes it will also give you a tolerance on the gaps too if out side this limit change the rockers or you may have damaged tappet bores.

 

The rockers do wear, but to make a really loud noise as you say it would have to be some MASSIVE clearance.

Tapping noises get louder with increased clearance, and im very doubtful if you have/can even achieve that level of wear on a rocker.

How long have you actually had it running for? The lifters will take a while to fill up with oil and quiet down

 

If the tappet bores are scored or enlarged this can give oil pressure problems to the tappet thus making them very noisey.
