Default Dizzy question

What is acceptable wear in a dizzy? Would it be fair to say that there is always going to be a degree of backlash seeing the thing is gear driven, or should it be tight with no decernable backlash? If the shaft is true, and the phase gap constant, does it really matter if the rotor is potentially a degree or two out on overrun?

If you were to buy a new one do you get the dizzy itself or the complete unit including the drive pulley?
