Default Cosworth Broken Cam

My mate finally decided to find out what had broken on his car, as you
can see from the picture the exhaust cam has snapped.

It turns out the outside stud on the cam cap no.4 has stripped the thread from
the head, result was the whole cap had lifted up unscrewing the other nut
too.

This must have been a problem before as someone has added extra washers to try and screw the nut down

But what can we do now, other than another head?
Can it be re-tapped?

Any ideas are most welcomed

It can be repaired don't worry, the most likely way would be to lock a stud/s on this cap position.
Will need milling to get bang on, don't you just love it when you have to fix others bodges, people like this should be shot IMO.
I don't know of a machinist in your area, but my advice would be have a good look around first, and don't just take the cheapest, if they screw it up you are buggered, but at the mo it is defo saveable, and relatively straightforward.

Do not helicoil it, take it to a machine shop and let them take the risk.
They will most likely sweat a plug in then tap out to std size way way better than a helcoil but more money, your choice though.

What risk, do you know how much mea there is there ?, do you know if there are any cracks ?, do you now how deep the hole is ?.
At the end of the day you can DIY with a cheap helicoil kit, but you can also pay someone a little extra that knows their way around alloy repairs to do a much better and stronger job with a plug that is GUARANTEED and for not much cash, as I said it's up to him what he does does not matter to me, might mean another cossie breaking for spares soon though!!

Since yesterdayevening i've got simmular pictures. I was driving at 180km/h under full load when suddenly i lost power and i heard a lot of ratteling. I've just lifted the rockercover and saw this:

I quess i will have to lift the head to check the valves etc. What do you think might be the couse and will be the damage?
