phase sensor question?
hi there chaps
have a question do you have to mod the cam in the head of the zetec to run on cossy mangment ie p8 or will it still pick up ok with the standerd pick up or is it purley relying on the crank sensor?????????????
can anyone help??

If P8 cossie ECM uses a phase sensor(sequential injection) then it needs on, the std zetec one will work as sensor signal return and feed same across all ford ECM.
No it cannot rely on just crank sensor if the ECM needs phase sensor, as it does not know in which phase it is.

I think what hes asking, tabetha, is if the lobes on the standard cam are in the right places and if there are the right number of them to trigger the P8 properly.
And, me myself, i think you do have to modify the cam

If you are using a zetec cam it will have the lobe for phasing ?, so just keep zetec sensor wired to P8 it will work as it receives a signal.
As far as I know all zetecs and cossies are sequential so will have phase sensors, and where they are is not relevant at all, if it has a phase sensor lobe machined on the cam it will give a signa, should be the type needed for P8.
CRANK sensor and PHASE sensor are BOTH needed for sequential injection, NO it will not work with just the crank sesnosr as ECM is looking for a phase signal as well, if it did not need a phase sensor it would have to be BATCHED FIRED, I am sure the P8 is not.

chear guy for replys well the engine was running and built but area six and runs on a t2 witch has given up on me so switching over to p8 instead the car ran but we neaver frove her it would run for 1 minit and then cut out again and wont start for days no one can repair my ecu or get init to see the prob?it cost loads for this?never mind ah
so the pick up will be ok on the standerd sensor?
is there any way of telling if the work has been done to the cam???

This website should show you what im talking about:
http://www.rsrich.force9.co.uk/zetec...management.htm
It would not matter if it had 10 million lobes.
That is not the point the point is what was asked, and the matter is that if it has a PHASE SENSOR it must therefore be sequential, yet someone asks wether it can just use the crank sensor, which has absolutely nothing to do with the phase.

I think you'll find its what he asked!
It is obvious that if you use a cam (zetec) that has a lobe for phase as they do it will work, question should be did ford change the refference point, I suspect not as it all relies on a known datum point which would be TDC no1.

You'll find i didn't say that! I questioned if they are in the correct positions?!
So i have no clue what you are banging on about!
