RS Turbo wont start, Help !!!
My mates putting together an xr2 turbo with MFI rs turbo engine.
We've been trying to start it but with no luck, theres a spark there and the car fires and fires and fires but just wont go
We've done all the basics like checked the timing ten times over, checked for air leaks etc etc.
Only thing i can see is theres loads of fuel pressure at the filter, but when you crack the nuts off on the top of the metering unti you only really get dribbles of fuel. so we took an injector out and fuel will just come through when the flap on the metering unit is fully depressed, is that how it should be ?
Anyone got any ideas ?
Cheers.

bit of both really.
My mates building his first project, ive kind of got him into and due to him having a mortgage and a wife it had to be a budget project, hence an xr2 with an mfi engine, cheap to build but fun to drive.
saying bin it for EFI wasnt really worth you taking the time to post, all i was after was a bit of help. others say that EFI is utter shite, so what should he then bin the EFI for ?
all i was asking for was some help, not advice on engine choice as thats already been decided. i see what youre saying, but not very helpful.
Cheers.

Well im sorry you feel that way but being perfectly honest with you MFI is a pile of shite, ive been there done that and i can't wait to get rid of it.
if you took the time to look into it, by the time its converted over to say FRST management and he's sold on the MFI stuff it won't have costly hardly anything more.
You look in the Fiesta Turbo section.......see how slow it moves in there, its cos its a damn site more reliable.
Anyway i'll stop posting as you say im wasting my time!

i see what youre saying again, but saying that mfi is a pile of shite, well thats just your opinion.
what do i say to him, this fella on the internet says its a pile of shite so rip it all out, sell it and start from scratch ? my xr2 ran faultless on mfi. karl norris says EFI is utter shite, so whats after that ?
obviously mfi is old and there are far better options but it comes at a price. anyway its fixed and running fine now, its just teething problems getting it up and running.

Ask around you find many more people that would pick EFI over MFI, its not my opinion, it is seriously rubbish! As i say you compare the FRST room to the ERST room......all you get in here all day every day is help my RS wont start, help i cant fuel to the injectors, help my rs wont spark, help my rs keeps back firing, help my rs is hesitant/holds back on full throttle etc etc etc
You can pose the question to your mate.........he can only say no!
And there are far more effective and less offensive ways to tell me that wasn't what you were after, than calling me a nonce
so on that note, go and get bent *you nonce*!

lol, i wasnt calling you a child molester, it wasnt meant in that way. it was a simple straightforward question thats all, the engine is in, looms wired in, gearbox all in, fluids all in. there was never any question of changing it all to efi, just a question about a bit of help/advice.
same here, im just trying to point out, find summat better to do than reply with 'change to efi', it was a pointless post. no wonder youve lost interest since its taken me 3 or 4 posts to explain it to you, pillock

If you are getting fuel pressure at metrering head but not injectors, then most likely flap is stuck or adjusted badly(very).
Use a thin screwdriver to push down on metering head flap whilst cranking and see what happens if the flap moves down and pressure exists it will have no option but to go easiest route to injectors.
The MFI injectors run a continuous spray, but need a LOT OF PRESSURE compared to EFI.
Sad to say EFI is better but MFI workable and for someone of the likes of KARL NORRIS to say EFI is crap, he may have been taken out of context as EFI is a vast improvement over MFI but by no means perfect.
NO FACTORY FIT SYSTEM IN THE WORLD is any good compared to AFTERMARKET 3D ECU, BUT THEY CAN ALL BE MADE MUCH BETTER WITH TWEAKS, factory fit systems have to meet so many different criteria to aftermarket, whise clients are generally after just power.
Some tuners forget that not everyone has a unlimited budget, but honestly I don't imagine KN to be one of these as he is a genuine good guy.
