Not really touched on Escos's (bit too pricey for me ) but could just be poor connections on the connector to the instruments.

Either that or the dreaded fuse box failure all MK5 and above escorts suffer from

check the lamp display dimmer switch ( lower left side of the dash )

you may have just knocked it when cleaning it , or it could be faulty...

as you have only 10% of light its the most likely cause....

It could be the invertor that's inside the instrument cluster breaking down. When these start to go it affects all the dials including the 3 centre ones...

It could well be the inverter or it could be the electroluminescent faces.or both.Could be the dimmer which is easy to check out with a multimeter as its only a variable resistor.check out the escort cosworth forum as this topic comes up time and again.and again

Oh yeah - Escos instruments don't use bulbs as such - the dial faces are electroluminescent and glow green when an A/C voltage is put across them at the right frequency.

The inverters that convert 12v DC to AC to bang and you lose the lot.

As soon as someone mentioned the elctroluminescent faces above i worked it out, i didn't know they had them, thought it was just conventional bulbs

the lights in my mk5 escort van dash somtimes decide to go tits up, and a swift punch to the top of the dash usually does the trick
