Default Ignition Advance

Why does the ignition timing need advancing under very light loads (like what the vac advance does on old dizzys)?
What AFR is used at these conditions i.e. more than 10"Hg of vacuum?

Because very light loads brings a low BMEP in the cylinder due to virtually closed throttle.

This type of cylinder fill takes an age to burn and as such requires a lot of advance to keep any torque output.

Average fuel mixture here will be 14.7:1.
