Default the most unspecific problem ever?

I have a ford focus 02 plate 1.8 petrol car which i do love.....

unfortunately i have a issue

probably the most unspecific one ever

At no particular speed, at no particular time in no particular gear, my speedo drops to zero and a lose some power.....within 10 seconds everything returns to normal. When this happens my lights, stereo and everything else continues to work......

getting worried as i have to drive 600 mile round trip in a few days...

any ideas or previous experience???

Also anyone changed one of the springs in the gear lever assembly? Looks pretty easy again advise appreciated.

Cheers
Matty
