What type or what grade of gearbox oil is used in a gearbox of a (sapphire) cosworth, 75w90 or 80w90

Ok,
Lets clear this up then

The T5 manual takes Dexron II as Gary rightly says..

However:
The MT75 found in all 4wd cosworth variants absolutely MUST be used only with special MT75 Transmission fluid.

I personally use Castrol FMT.

No probs Gary
I recon we should ask Bernie to clear this up actually, as ive also heard that using non MT oils is ok, but i personally believe it to be a bearing material issue.

Be interesting to know once and for all from a transmission professional

O.K.
Cosworth T5: Dexron II
Cosworth MT75: MT75 fluid
RS2000 MTX75 up to 1995: MT75 fluid
RS2000 MTX75 1996 model up: SS75W/90

Note: I recommend the use of a full synthetic 75W/90 on "big tooth" motorsport gearsets, but on all of these boxes you will need to get the box warm before expecting a quick gearchange

Cosworth MT75 transfer: DexronII
RS2000 MTX75 transfer: MT75

Whilst were here then Bernie.......

Whats the difference with Dexron II and III?

Ive presumed III is a better spec but simply never used it as i dont "know for a fact"

I called Castrol Tech once with this issue and they didnt know either

The later Dexron III is supposedly friendlier on the solenoids of the modern day "managed" auto transmissions.
I would expect it to have a slightly higher detergent level, along with improved anti-foam properties (which is generally what the Dexrons were about)

The T5 gearbox is a 2wd gearbox???
Rare question, what color is Dexron II is it blank or red like aut.transmission fluid, because the color of the oil that's now in the gearbox is blank.

BTW thanks for the reply's
