i have built a 2.0l zetec up from scratch.
its got a rattle which increases when you let off the throttle.
gets quieter when on the gas and sounts like a tappet tapping away.
the thing is the tappets are brand new ford itemsjust 300 miles usage.
its got the following spec.
2050cc rebore and new pistons.
recon 1.8 ported head.
focus rs head gasket.
kent cams and pulleys.
all the tappets/ valve springs/ seals etc are new but they are only standard spec.
i was wondering if the standard spec springs and tappets are the reason that they have gone already?!?!?
it revs quite high with the megasquirt management

 

took it out today again.
it rattled on startup and continued for 20 seconds.
the oil light stayed on whilst it was rattling and went off as soon as it stopped rattling.
the tapping noise was quite at first then got louder as the engine got hotter and sounds defo like a tappet ticking away.
ideas???

 

you got an oil pressure guage? oil light is worrying, if the head is being starved of oil then it will tap.
