Hi guys! basically, its been in my garage for a few weeks, (without a battery on dont know if this makes and difference) always started up first time when i put a battery on, and then yesterday i went to start it and i couldn't get the immobiliser off, im not sure if immobilisers come standard on xr2i's (1992).

i dont know the make of it off the top of my head, and i dont have the red chip in the key.

and ideas on how to disable it so i can get it started?

Xr2i's never came with an immobiliser as standard im aware of.

What makes you think it has an immobiliser if you dont have a coded key?

 

because i have a keyfob, and you can usually turn the immobiliser on and off, but for some reason it wont turn off.
there is a little red light on top off the steering column, it goes off when the immobiliser is off. stays on when the immobiliser is on etc.

 

It must be something someone's fitted after, as they never had no security on them when new. I would put a good charged battery on the car, also make sure the battery in the key fob aint dead, as if it is, the keyfob aint gonna work. What make system is it?

 

What sort of fob is it? One you have to push in and de-activate, or like the newer style ones where it just detects the fob is within range?
