Default Slight problem with S1 brakes.

Afternoon all...

Got a slight problem with my S1 brakes, just need to get this sorted and thats about it really...

When i restored the underside, i replaced all the brake pipes for new etc....and have checked them all for leaks....of which there are none...

But....when the car is idling, and i pump the brake pedal, the revs on the car dip really low and it nearly cuts out, i assume this is a vaccuum issue ? Is it the hose from the inlet to the servo or is there anything else that can affect this ?

Cheers in advance

Michael

Chances are, as with most MK3 & 4's, your servo is knackered.

Does the car run rough after a minute or two of starting from cold?

The seals perish and leak.

Test it, i could be wrong but ive never owned a MK3/4 with a good brake servo and ive had a good few!

Presumably you do have the proper pipe with the 1 way valve in it?

AAAAHHHHHH u mean the cylinder thingy ? lol Sorry

I actually replaced the seals in it when it was off, as i got a repair kit, bottom of it was leaking when we refitted it and running down the black round bit.....(pardon the expression)

You mean the bit with the 4 brake pipes into it yeah ? Seals were done mate.

Yeah the pipe is the one that came off mate, same one as was on to start with......could i have done anything when i took it all apart ?

Michael
PS....Thanks for helping.

No your talking about the master cylinder now, i mean the big black thing, that the vacuum pipe plugs into.

The seals perish and create an air leak.

Do you know how to test a brake servo?

BAsically you need to test if its retaining vacuum afer your switch the engine off.

So run the engine briefly and then switch off, and either pull the pipe out of the servo (could be tight) and if theres pressure you will hear it, or pump the pedal and it will progressively get hard as you use all the vacuum up.

Servo repair kits.......LOL.......not a chance! If only
