rst cabriolet wiring help needed
hello
i currently own an rs turbo cabriolet which i only purchased a few months
ago but upon propper inspection the car needs more bodywork than i thought and have decided to re-shell it.
I would like to know if i can split my loom under the engine bay and wire it into the fuse box somehow as if this is possible seems a much easier way of doing things i know i can change the whole lot or i can cut and join it inside but i just cannot see why u couldnt do this just in the engine bay as all you really need are the ecu's and extra sensors wired in.
if im talking a load of rubbish please tell me as i do need your help with this as it is confusing me and i cannot make my mind up.
thanks.[/b]

well seing as its already a turbo cabriolet then someone will have already joined the loom!
the place where i reckon it will be joined is in the plastic cill where the drivers door is
u will need to remove the dash and pull all the loom up though the fuse box hole into the engine bay
then just refit through the fuse box back into the dash area and reconnect the wires quite easy actually!

ok thanks for that mate. but just to be a pain in the arse do you or anybody else know if you can wire it in under the engine bay somehow as
i have heard of this being done and to be completely honest justs seems like it would be a hell of a lot easier than taking the dash and everything out.

seems a daunting task mate but not really that hard at all,are you fitting the turbo engine to another cabby or a tintop
was doing this the other day as i am converting my cabby to efi,had the loom out and the new loom laid in in about 3 hours
i usually just unplug all the bits like leccy windows central locking leccy mirrors if fitted and just leave them there and plug them back into the new loom, allthe plugs are different shapes you cant go wrong with it.
if you were up my way would do it for you for a small fee lol

lol cheers mate i am a mechanic and have worked on these cars quite a few times but have little knowledge of electrics i bought the rs cabriolet to do up but found a mint one on ebay so decided to put my engine and running gear in it.im just really trying to see what options i have with the loom but looks like ile have to replace the lot,i was trying to source another loom from a s2 so i could have it ready to drop engine in before stripping mine but i cant find one anywhere.
anyway guys cheers for your help so far.

know the basics about electrics myself mate, once you have removed a loom you will know how to put it back in,my mate is an excellent mechanic and knows a bit about electrics but seems scared to do this sort of job, is like venturing into the unknown for him
,it seems a nightmare until you get into it honest you will change the loom in a shift no probs
i know most of the plugs just by looking at them so if you get stuck just put up a picky and i'll try to help mate but honest you cant go wrong, usually cut the wires for the roof clock interior light etc and join it to the new loom cos its a pain in the arse can be done in one piece but needs welding wire and a lot of patience
,also the fuel pump wire under the rear seat if you cut it just before the earth its only 2 wires you need to join cos can be a bit of a coont getting it through without dropping the tank sometimes

Theres a lot of text in this thread so im sorry if this has already been said, but in the long run it will be far better to remove the entire loom, the looms are one whole piece, i would almost guarantee by the time you have finished snipping wires and labelling etc it will take longer than removing it, and also more complicated.
Especially as its a cabriolet the rear section of loom is even easier to remove (no rear wiper etc)
