Default Head very tappy on s2

Hello. I have just finished my zvh engine with the 2.1 block. The head i have fitted is a standard 1.6 cvh head and is very tappy. The lifters seem to be lifting oil fine. (I have turned the crank with the coil lead off). The head has not been run for about 4 years or maybe more.

As stated in title it is very very tappy. Do you think it is because it has not been run for a while or is it a mechanical fault. many thanks in advance for your time and help

What sort of state was the old engine in the head came off? If the oil was in a bad state you could remove them all and soak them in brake cleaner/thinners something like that to clean out all the old oil. The you need to let them stand somewhere warm so all the cleaning fluid runs out, then give them a dip in some oil, re-fit and run the car up to temperature.

It may work, it may not, but you've got nothing to lose by trying it

At the same time you can check the faces of the lifters to see what state the cam is in, IF ANY ARE TIGHT/ROUGH LIFTING OUT DO NOT FORCE THEM UP.....
