Ok.
So, just to clarify, you turn the ignition on, and the battery light illuminates, and doesnt go out once the car is running and bein driven?

Thats what i was trying to ask
Right, not very easy to see, but you need to look at the alternator wiring.
Theres a thick red wire, and a thinner wire (i dont know the colour)
The thinner wire is the wire we are interested in. There are 2 terminals it could connect onto, have a look at which one its connected to.
Then you could try disconnecting the wire and doing a simple test.

Just google searched and this post come up guys so sorry if its a bit out of context, i've just took a 130 1.8 16v zetec out of a '94 escort to put into my old ford anglia and i would possibly need to get the engine running as i took it out the car, someone has told me really all i need is a live feed to the ecu and as long as i got the fuel pump etc for that ecu it should run? is this true?

Sort off.... Yes, you will probably find there are some relays and shit that need to come over. On the xr2i there is a round multiplug under the bonnet where the engine loom discoonnects from the rest of the car. Been ages since I fooked around with one of these. Tell me the colours and I will try and help. From memory we have green = rev gauge, blue = alternator to clocks, black and red =fuel pump , black = ig live (possibly) white and brown =temp gauge (I think).... Dunno if this helps
