Default Smoke, But why??? *****SORTED*****

My car smokes on idle, Its like a blue/grey colour, Doesnt do it all of the time either, 99% onf the time it does it if the car has been stood over night or all day at work, It sometimes does it when the engine is warm. There is no oil blowing from the DV, The engine isnt breathing.

Could it be caused be excesive over fueling causing bore wash????

could be over fueling alot and causing bore wash where it washs all the oil from the bores then gets pumped back up into the combustion chamber

Ok,
Ive checked all the breathers, All clear

I checked for play in the turbo, There is a tiny bit but no more than when I fitted it

I turned the mixture down as far as it would go, The idle has become very lumpy

Still smells a bit rich

Held the revs at 1500rpm, Still smokes but very little

Drove down the road and came to a junction, Slowed down and there was quite a bit of smoke.

Went for a good thrash for 10 mins then pulled up at a petrol station and left it to idle whilst I checked my tyre pressures, No smoke

Drove back home, Stoppped at a junction to turn right, When I set off there was a puff of smoke, Pulled down the drive and left it to idle for a min or so, No smoke

So is it down to bore wash, Duff turbo or summat else

in and out, It had the same amount of play when it was fitted, There is only a VERY tiny amount, I know in and out play isnt good but I had about 3mm in and out play on my last turbo before it smoked alot

ello mate, ive got a similar prob......my rs especially if its not driven for a little while smokes sometimes........theres no smoke at all on start up it usually happens after around ten mins of driving.......my smoke is thick white smoke........comes pooring out like im driving a steam engine...........if it doesnt clear straight away then i park up and turn the ignition off.......after bout 15 mins ill start her again and nothing what so ever happens, drive round for the rest of the night and shes perfect.

ive checked for play in my turbo......absolutely perfect no play at all, checked all the boost pipes and theyre clear also. i checked the turbo itself in case its leaking oil between the compressor housing etc and perfect. i had a compression test carried out and theyre also perfectly fine.

ive recently changed my valve stem seals, valve springs, retainers, and followers ( they were failing slighty ). that was two days ago now and apart from when i had just finished changing them ( slight smoking, not sure if it all needed a few miles to settle ??? ) all has been well ( fingers crossed ). i only now get a very slight puff of normal smoke on hard acceleration and gear changes at full throttle which im sure is normal........does any of this sound familiar to your prob ????.

regards, dave

It does sound pretty much the same, Been out most of the afternoon and only got one tiny puff of smoke.

Does anyone know what the smallest size a catch tank can be??

Just found the problem, I checked all of the breather pipes the other day and found no problem. A few days ago 2 of the breather pipes that go to the catch tank came off, Yesterday one of the other breathers to the catch tank came off and I left it off, Today I had no smoke, My brain finally went into gear and I found the problem, I checked summat I never thought of checking, The breather filter that had only been on for about 2 weeks, It was more or less blocked solid, Dont know if the glue that holds it together had melted or the filter element had melted but what ever, I could hardly blow through it.

Note for the future, Dont get cheap breather filters

this sounds similar to my problem. which breather was it in? i had a small pipercross filter on my top breather by the rocker cover and since it fell off somwhere it seems to have started smoking more.

may just be coincidence

Ive got 2 extra breathers on the block and one on the rocker cover, All 3 go to a catch tank, There is a breather filter on the top of the catch tank, It was that which was blocked
