Default Ford fiesta cam timing

right whilst i was stripping the fez i was reading the haynes n it said i had to set the tdc so i set about doing this i got the bottom crank aligned:

right its my understanding that this mark is pretty acurate because of the woodruff key and therfore at this point no 1 and 4 are at tdc and it cant be changed? is that right?
well if thats true then my cams should be perfectly aligned to allow me to fit the metal bar to hold them in place?

wel why on my fez is it like this,
inlet is straight:

and the bar fits:

exhaust isnt:

and the bar wont fit in:

the pic doesnt really show how far out it is but its more in reality!

now with my limited knowledge, because i didnt build this engine, the cam timing is out isnt it? so therfore i am more than likely down on a lot of power which is what ive allways thought!

so can anybody help me with my questions? ta people

Yes, your cam timing is slightly out.

To reset, undo the cam pulleys a little bit so they will just rotate, slot the bar in both cams, set the tension with the tensioner and then tighten cam pulley bolts. Rotate engine and check bar will slot back in again.

Hope that helps.

Yes, it could effect your power. I doubt it would cause gasket failure.
