Default Missing partnumber (?) - please help (gearbox)

Hi there,

I don't know what this part is called in English, but I have a few pics of the part I'm looking for. The Danish Ford dealers cannot find any partno. for this part in Microcat - do you have the same problem in UK? What can I do to replace the part? The part must be replaced by a new one as it got a lot of cracks.

Hope you can help me with a partno. and a phoneno. to your local Ford dealer who can provide me with the part?

Car is a 1992 Ford Sierra Cosworth 4x4.

Thanks
Thomas Krath

as far as i know its only available as part of the complete short section of prop shaft thats in your first picture.
not sure if i,m allowed do this but go to this link http://www.grahamgoode.com/cosworth/frparts.htm then open up (brakes suspension and drivetrain) then click on drivetrain
and go to the 4th and 5th item from the bottom of the list (guibo joint) i,m nearly sure this is the same item your looking for,and it may be cheaper than a complete shaft

In microcat it's as "coupling assy". Try code 1638947 or 1515117. Price around 60Ł.

I tried ordering the partno. 1638947, but it is not the correct part and can not replace the orig. part. There is no partno. 1515117 at my local Ford dealer. The number has been deleted as there are no parts left.

GG have not answered my email.

What to do?? Please help.

Btw. is the part called a "guibo joint" in English??

Scorpios have at least 6 different version of that part. You might want to see, if one of them fits.

Hi,

I have a "guibo joint" that we no longer use, i will be happy to sell it to you if you p.m. me your address. It is very nearly new, these joints became obsolete from ford some years ago the last ones we got were from our local transmission/drivetrain supplier who had bought all the stock from our local dealership. The other solution we used when we ran the 4x4 mt75 box was to fit a normal drive flange, the flange is off a transit early type then have the front end of the prop modified and lengthened with a matching flange, obviously there is no cushioning effect but it did'nt seem to effect anything.

Hope this helps

Regards

Ian

Thanks for your offer mate. I am currently waiting an answer from GG's parts department, but will let you know if I can use your part.

Thanks

As mentioned, the Sierra 4x4 standard version is no longer available AFAIK, the Escort version is slightly different and not interchangeable unless you change the output shaft of the gearbox to a later Escort one to match the joint.

BMW use this type of 'Guibo' joint a lot - just a thought, maybe there is a cross-match to one of these??

It is not only Ford and BMW that use these "guibo joints", but I cannot understand that I am the only one who has this problem? There is one "guibo joint" on every Cosworth ever made and I cannot be the only one who needs to replace it? Perhaps it is just normal to buy the complete driveshaft, but I think it is a little to expensive as my driveshaft does not need to be replaced.

Hi Thomas,

I've spoken to our drivetrain people this morning, they looked after M-Sports Grp 'N' propshaft needs for some years so know the cossie's very well. The joint cannot be purchased seperately, as I said in the earlier posting they converted all the 'guibo joints' to normal flanges. The rear flange for the box is available off them but this is not a ford part. To completely fix your problem i would quite happily have the front end of one of our old props converted and post you a replacement rear flange for your box if you have someone who could fit it that way you do away with the guibo joint. As I said before we ran this set-up on rally cars with no adverse effect.

Regards

Ian, do you know exactly what the differences are between the earlier 4x4 Sierra joint and later Escort one?
Cheers
Rich

Rich,

Not exactly sure, the MT75 box and rear prop all inter changeable as far as i'm aware, when we ran saph and escorts in grp'n' we never differentiated between the two items but on standard cars I would not like to say hand on heart. We've engineered out most problems on cossie's over the years.

ok, thanks Ian - I know people who have fitted MT75 from an Escort in a 4x4 Sierra, have had to also fit the escort prop front and joint, as the output shaft from the gearboxes have been different..

Hi Ian,

if I fit one of your replacement rear flange I asume my car will be like driving a grp. N rally car? I suppose the guibo joint has a function as regards to comfort?

Kind regards
