You're guna have to start from the top on this one, as gup says check plugs and leads. You as may aswell give it a good service to eliminate as many things as you can.

get a gauge on the fuel rail and check the fuel pressure. Also check the voltage across the fuel pump when running and also at battery. anything less than 12v and you have no chance.

if this is ok check all pipes and fittings are tight in engine bay and from fuel pump to engine bay. have you also changed the fuel filter?

is it chipped? if so take it out and try it without it.

check for vac leaks and for the sake of a tenner i would advise a new fuel filter as its prob over due for one.

let me know what things you have checked/changed and how and we're go from there.

dont forget to de-pressurise the fuel system by removing the fuel pump fuse and cranking it over.
remove fuel cap to get rid of tank pressure too.

that way it wont piss all over the show when ya undo the filter

maybe i should of said about that before

let us know how ya get on.

it might even be a uprated one as the connections on the top are different but theres no markings to say as such.

and if ya running beiges you need a uprated pump BTW mate.

Just looked on microcat and the Turbo pump appears to be the unique one

dont worry about microcat.

yeah the part numbers are different but they fit and work and work fine, a few people i know run xr2i pumps, and belive me your be fine, as the 2i and FRST use the same injection system inc the injectors, its just the regulator thats adjusted different so the 2i 1.6/1.8 ans rs1800 pumps will work fine.

if ya running beiges you need a uprated pump mate.

once i checked the pump i will let ya know., but i can only dry test it mate by buzzing it over on a battery

yeah i got paypal mate, as for price, once ive tested it ill let ya know and you can make a offer dude.

dont mean to piss on ya fire mate but it does, trust me i have a few mates running 2i pumps in there FRST's i even runs a 165 chip, he's had it rolling roaded and fueling fine...

the 2i/frst pump is good for this, if ya going 195 chip its not.

anyhow, if you buy a after market pump the 2i and frst have the same parts numbers as its not the pump pressure that is different its the bottom part that differs a tiny bit

The turbo pumps have a sticker on them identifying them as turbo pumps though.......

And you look on microcat and the turbo pump is the one thats singled out. It may well work but you're blatantly raping it

the turbo engines do run the fuel at a different pressure, but this is adjusted by the regulator, not the pump.

That was a bit harsh

Jay, i know the pressure is regulated by the pressure regulator, i may look thick but im actually not

I'm sooooooo sure the pumps different. Its the fact of how much fuel the pump can deliver under full load, thats when it makes the difference, same pressure, but faster consumption!!!!

Just out of interest is it ofab or ofac not that it makes much difference but my mates did similar thing on an ofac one and was the map sensor. This is definitely unique to the turbo tho.

right, taken from auto data itself, these are the details for the pumps on the fiestas.

xr2i 1.6
delivery pressue 5.0 bar
regulated pressure with vac 2.3-2.5 bar

xr2i 1.8 zetec
delivery pressue 3.0 bar min
regulated pressure with vac 2.5-2.9 bar

FRST
delivery pressue 3.0 bar min
regulated pressure with vac 2.9-3.1 bar

all i could get on the RS1800 was regualted pressuer WITHOUT vac
2.5-2.9 bar

so you see a xr2i pump is fine for use, and really you shouldnt need to adjust the regulator just by changing the pump.

maybe the FRST uprated pump is a 2I pump

Hang on hang on, thats even worse, that auto data has to be wrong Why the hell would a N/A engine have a higher delivery rate than the Turbo. They use the same injectors man

If those delivery pressures were the opposite way it would make perfect sense. higher delivery pressure, regulated to both near enough the same, but the Turbos have more potential for a high fuel consumption.

It gets more and more confusing

When i had my fiesta turbo, i had intermittant splutter like you describe, has it got a supechip ??? which is fitted at the bottom of the ecu ??, if so take the car out with a mate and as your driving get him to push the chip towards the ecu and wiggle it. Mine had a loose connection on the pins.

Worth a shot !!!
