What causes the deposits you can see on the pictures below (pistons #3 and 4) ?
How can it be fixed ?

Thanks in advance
Greg

looks like burnt oil to me.maybe valve guides or stem seals,or rings also looks like the valves kissed that piston a few times leaving the tell tale smiles. .might want to find the cause of that first

indeed, the valves are hitting the pistons.

Thanks peeps, the contact is due to a cambelt failure, hence the head being off, having stripped the head, we found that the valve guides were worn to say the least.

Are the deposits a long term problem or just one of those things ?

The deposits may simply be down to the valve guide wear as a worn giude will allow oil ingress into teh combustion process.

Its also worth checking the fuelling is not excessive once the engine is reassembled.

Thanks Stu, that makes me feel a little more comfortable, does the above mean a rolling road tune or a mapping session ? I am running a stage 1 chip from power engineering at the mo.

Cheers

Certainly not a mapping session at stage 1 mate, just a check over by someone with the right equiptment and the competence to use it correctly.
