Cometic Rocker cover gaskets

Cometic Rocker cover gaskets
Got a leaky rocker cover gasket, possibly the half moon seals or the gasket (all new). Didnt put any sealant on them because I may want to have the rocker cover off for various reasons and cometic gaskets are reusable . . . .
Guess I have no option but to use gasket sealant and replace the gasket evertime??

Cometic gaskets are re-usable m8,have used one three times
As long as you don't over tigthen it
The only place you need sealer is where the half moons meet the rocker gasket, just a small blob on the joint

when I went to buy a cometic rocker gasket from woodford Simon advised me against it as he said he has had nothing but trouble with them leaking, put a standard one on and had no problems, and have had the cover off a few times and not replaced and it still doesnt leak

Personally i don't think you can get any better than a Genuine Ford rocker gasket. Most of the time they leak because 3rd party gaskets have been used, and when tightened it bends the rocker cover.....
There is a bit of a nack to doing them but i have fitted a cheapy £2 rocker gasket before now and had the cover off a few times with no leaks. Put your rocker cover on a flat surface and u will more than likely see its no longer "true"

I use a grey loctite sealer availible at Halfords find that is very good, and have used it instead of a gasket on my saff(Most new engines which are alloy use this type of sealer everywhere except head, exhaust and intake).
Don't forget to reseal under front cam caps because this can leak too.
Cometic cossie rocker gaskets are very good i have one on my tina No leaks,no probs,no worries
And i've had gasket off four times, just picked of sealer off half moons and edges of gasket and resealed and used it again
Use a torque wrench and start middle outwards.

As above i've one on my saff (head gasket) and they are re-useable
most triple layer gaskets are, the best being a WRC one but it cost's a lot only any good if you have over 400 bhp!

i have got a cometic cam cover gasket on mine! no leaks been off a couple of times.
bought it from pj motorsport and asked them about being reusable and they said yes! and when fitting smear a thin layer of grease on the faces to stop the gasket sticking

Yep cossie steveS2
Will use a dash of sealant then (ive used Locktight goldseal for a few of the other bits, that seams spot on!)
Will check the cover for warping as well then, ta everyone
