Hiya guys,
Just come back from a bit of a thrash in my car and near home after breaking heavy the car started reving on its own between 1000 and say 3000 rpm, got home, turned the ignition off tried it a few more times and just the same, also air constantly coming out of the dump valve, could this be throttle position sensor ? idle spped contol valve ( i unplugged this but made no diff) or the dump valve or what, sorry bit of an amateur under the bonnet.
By the way it stage 3 4x4 Saff.
Cheers in advance Mark

I have found the problem, where the bracket for the throttle cable is fixed onto the plenum cover i seem to now have a hole ! bracket is only held on by 1 bolt and where i presume there was another bolt there is now a hole ! thus giving me a vacuum leak, when i cover this hole it idles fine. What i am concerned about is there seems to be no thread on the hole as if its been stripped !
Could the bolt have sheared off taking the thread with it leaving me with whats left of the bolt in the plenum, if so would this have caused any damage ?
Is there really enough vacuum in there to have sheared a bolt off
could i bung the hole somehow or is that a completely stupid idea
Any help apreciated guys

Hi mate
To be honest, it is far more likely that the bolt rattled loose and simply fell out. There is abolutely no way in hell that there is enough vacuum to shear a bolt. That said, it could have snapped, but again this is unlikely.
If you want to be sure, take the back of the plenum off (you will need a gasket) and check, otherwise, replace the bolt, and hey presto problem will be solved.
If it makes you feel any better, I had the exact same problem on mine, when a bolt fell out of the throttle elbow! All fun!
Cheers
JJ
