Default S1 gearbox rebuild Help please!

Hello all

Can anyone help?

I have a S1 RS Turbo and it's started crunching into 5th all the time and 4th once the car has warmed up.

Does anyone know whats causing it and if it needs a rebuild who's the best to do it and what should I expect to pay.

I did see a place that offered upgraded boxes exchange for £411 that claim to be ok for upto 200bhp, this sounded ok but I had never heard of the company so don't know how good they will be.

Any recomendations would be a big help.

Cheers all

Gearboxman is the best solution and you are the cheapest one. Not too difficult really, if you want to learn something new. Wha tdo you mean with "crunching into"? Only trouble engaging gears or do you get constant noise? Anyhow, when you open a faulty box the fault is in most times obvious to see. Since you have a S1 box, it's also really easy to just buy a sound which ever gearbox and just change the LSD from the old box to the new one.

Hi
Over the last couple of years I have rebuilt several of my own gearboxes, but by the time you have replaced all the worn parts and got the box back in one piece you still only have a stranded box , I would go for a Gearboxman stage 1 box as this comes with the all important main shaft modification, and a new slipper pack, In my own car I have a stage 2 box which also has a Quaiffe diff as I have had the standard diffs lock solid in the past.

Hope his helps

Cheers

Steve,

Cheers for that, I think it's going to be a Stage 1 box from Gearbox Man, prices seem bang on.
