Default This can't be anything but bad

I am completely new to RS Turbos, but have a slight technical knowledge, anyway I know this must be a bads sign

I have an S2 90 spec, with a few engine mods and very high mileage over 165k but always been well looked after-no expense spared

I've seen it do this twice now, when it comes on boost and gets as high as it runs at the mo (about 12psi) it leaves a trail of blue smoke behind
Rarely, it kind of holds back when you put your foot down

I realise the car is getting tired now, but what am i looking to replace to fix this???

Bear with me, as i said i am new to this so expect a stupid question...

How do you mean overboosting?
when i got it, it ran about 18psi, but i was advised it would be better to run it lower at about 15
i think it has a bigger turbo than the original

Cheers for the quick response

It's probably just the turbo, does it smoke alot when u lift off after giving it some (overrun) if so i would pretty much bet that's the problem.

It's actually when i've got my foot down and it stops when it's on overun

It's not a load of smoke really, seen it do worse about 3 times when it's started up for no reason but not done that for ages

someone mentioned it could be turbo oil seals? could this be right?
do i have to have them replaced or the whole thing rebuilt?

I dont think it'll be the seals because it would be smoking everytime the turbo comes in. Are you losing alot of oil?

it doesn't smoke everytime the turbo comes in, just when it's really being wound up
No, it hardly ever needs oil topping up
It does leak a bit though-had a new sump gasket to stop it but then it leaked from elsewhere

Has very recently had new oil, runs on Mobil 1 Motorsport, changed very 6k

I doubt very much it's your turbo mate, i'd try changing the actuator & see if it makes a difference from holding back or overboosting. I think it's gonna be a case of trial & error Let us know how you get on or if you need anymore help.
