Help needed with xr3 turbo setup
Ok,i finished fitting my turbo to my xr3 today, all went smoothly until i went to start it,now heres my problem, when i disconnected the pipe coming from the throttle body to the air box and connected the pipe from the intercooler to the throttle body, the car will not start no matter what i do,now, when i connect it back the right way,it starts first turn, any ideas folks, its really anoying after spending most of the day setting it all up.I dont have any rst stuff to change things around so im hopeing that there is a way to get it going as it is..Thanks

there seems to be a kind of float under the the pipe when i take it off the airbox and all the fuel pipes are connected on there aswel so im thinking that when you start the car,the pipe from the throttle body works like a vacum to lift the float to let the petrol through, maybe someone could let me know about this and is there a way around it..Thanks.

Yeah it works in the same way as RS Turbo stuff, its an air dependant system, you can't disconnect the pipe to the metering head.
Have a look around on the web for the Turbo Technics TT120 conversions cos that's basically what your trying to do.

Ok,Thanks for the info, would it be possible to put a T junction on the pipe coming from the throttle body and connect the pipe from the top of the intercooler into it,just a thought. Thanks again for the info

You shouldnt need any t pipes, u need to run from the air flow meter to the turbo, then out the turbo to the intercooler, then back out into the engine. No other way it can be done

I would love to do a full rst conversion but its impossible to get the stuff i need to do it in ireland as rst's are no where to be found here,im not looking for massive boost, just that little bit extra, maybe in time, ill get across the water and buy an rst but for now,ill just have to settle with turbocharging my xr3,if i cant get it to work,at least i tried...i dont want to get rid of my xr3 cause i have fully rebuilt it and i just recently resprayed it so it looks mint...

With that said if you've just re-built it, unless you have used RS Turbo pistons etc its not going to stand up to the boost very well anyway, and its going to have massive compression.

I'm sorry if I sound discouraging, but it really seems like you don't really know what you are doing. I'm seeing a huge risk here of you killing your engine completely. The std. 1.6 CVH can be turboed directly but one really needs to sort the fuelling, ignition curve, spark plugs, etc. before one can use even half a bar of boost safely.

If you understand how it works, You shouldnt really be asking these questions, Its pretty simple really, Metering head > Turbo > Intercooler > Inlet. On a car with K or KE jetronic you cant have an air leak anywhere, If you have a leak it wont idle.
This is why you cant use a single piston or diaphram dump valve on the Escort RST
