I am rebuilding my engine (2.0 zetec turbo) I am running std pistons at 16psi with no problem in over 30k miles. I was think about ceramic coating the std pistons, How would this help, Would it help at all??

teflon coated pistons????
teflon coated pistons????
http://www.fireballcoatings.com/prices.html have a look at that mate $25 per piston f/kin hell thats cheap
so are you talking about getting pistons decked to lower compresion then coat them
sound s good to me mate

There's this bloke on ebay http://stores.ebay.co.uk/MD-PERFORMA...-RACE-COATINGS too (I've no idea if he's any good as I've not tried his stuff out)
I would be wary of this if you plan to run biggish power.
A good friend of mine had Ceramic coated pistons on his R34 GTR Skyline, the car was running big power. But a part of the ceramic flaked off of the piston at heated operating temp, under extreme load, and had a knock on effect of lots more chipping and flaking off.
The end result was a VERY badly scored and scratched bore, and the head needed reworked. But it was so deeply scored that it ended up costing a fortune.
Just thought it would be worth mentioning.

But i would guess any car could be subject to flaws in ceramics.

Right, I finally got intouch with the bloke who does the coating. I asked him a few questions.
Would you require the piston being removed from the rod??
the piston can be coated without it being removed from the rod
If i decided to have my pistons done, Could I bring them to you as nottingham is only 30 miles from here??
yes you can deliver the parts to my workshop if you contact me first 01623 461892
Would I beable to run a higher C/R with a turbo if I used this coating??
yes the coat should allow a higher boost pressure or compression ratio to be run the main benifit in using a coating like this is to increase strenth of the piston to help protect against detonation
if u put a coating on top of the piston it will also raise the compression???
No the coating is designed to be applied very thin and will have no apprecible effect on the static comppression ratio
