Default Oil Temps and Surge problems

I assume these can be overcome by big wing sumps.
What about oil coolers and baffles? any use or just an expensive accessory?

Do any of you track boys have any problems with oil surge?

In my Fiecos,

i run a big wing sump (6 ltrs), and gates and baffles.

Even with 28oC ambients, and 30mins hard track session, it never goes over 105oC oil temp, and no oil surge issues.

In my xr2tt,

i run my own baffle's sump, and a 16row Mocal oil cooler.

before i done the sump (i've tried a couple different design's), i have oil surge on most corners, and it has even put 2 cams out, Since i havent had a issue.
Before i fitted the oil cooler, i was seeing 120oC oil temps in 10 min's hard session, i now see no more than 110oC after 20+ session.

There's 2 sorts of oil surge.

1st sort is when oil rushes to the sides of the sump on cornering, and in turn the oil pump dont have enough oil to pump round the engine, and the oil pressure drops.

2nd sort, is when the oil splashes around the sump on corners, and fills the breather system up, and can empty.

Thanks for that.

So, by having a windage tray installed aswell as a big wing sump inc baffle and a high pressure 4x4 oil pump it should not get any surge problems.

i simply extended my sump about 50mm with 1mm plate and now put 5l of oil into my motor

i use a mazda rotary oil cooler which is about 50cm long by 5cm thick by 15cm wide

never see temps above 100'c , even with ambients in summer around 30'c

the more oil in your sump , the less chance of oil pulling away from the pickup
